Creation by Curation

Over the past few years, OER has become a buzz word in the education sector. Most of the funded OER initiatives propagate the idea of sharing to prevent duplication and make it cost effective. A generous amount of resources (money, human hours, etc) have been invested in the development of OERs and yet the evidence of its utilisation by the most important stakeholders-the teachers, is low. Research identifies technology and lack of awareness as the barriers of the usage of OERs. However, these ‘perceived barriers’ are not as real as perceived. New technological developments and publication choices brought by Wiki 2.0 have reduced the technological barriers in OER utilization. Actual barrier for the teachers is inadequate skills and competencies (technical / pedagogical) to utilize OER. Teachers need persuasion and support for the utilization of OERs in daily practice. This course provides an algorithm for the teachers to design a course by ‘curating’ the OER content available. We include pointers to identify, examine, and align the OER content and augment it by designing learner centric activities.
